CIWM Waste Awareness Certificate Course - Construction
Forbury Environmental Limited, the subsidiary environmental consultancy of Clarkslegal LLP, is now offering you the chance to attend the new Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) accredited waste awareness course tailored specifically for the construction and demolition industry. These sessions are to be held throughout 2008 at three locations: Reading, London and Cardiff, at the offices of Clarkslegal and are presented by CIWM certified trainer, Brian Mayne, Principal Consultant at Forbury.
The construction industry spends around £200 million per year on landfill tax alone and this does not include disposal/tipping fees and transportation! Waste typically costs organisations 4.5% turnover and organisations can be fined up to £50,000 an infringement of waste legislation. - How to reduce, reuse and recycle waste
- Learn about disposal routes for remaining wastes
- Deal with waste safely Identify sources of help
- The construction waste chain and its influence on resources and wastes management
- Skip standards Site
- Waste Management Plans (introduction)
- Duty of Care

The course describes why it is necessary to deal with waste properly and explains what the true cost of waste includes. It considers the various types of waste and sets out the waste hierarchy, which is central to any strategy for dealing with waste. The course considers ways in which waste can be reduced, re-used, recycled or recovered and how to manage what waste remains.
The course, which costs £135 + VAT per person, is concluded with a short, open-book, multi-choice assessment test. Candidates who pass the test are awarded a certificate from the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, valid for five years.
